The tamil month "Thai" starts mid of jan and ends mid of feb....In sanskrit this month is the "Pousha" or the 'Makara'month'....
All fridays of this month and especially the 'Thai Amavaasai' are considered auspicious for the worship of the Goddess.....
Infact considered equivalent to the "Navratra"...
"Subramanyam" popularly known as "Abhirami Batter" was a Hindu saint from a town called "Thirukadavur" in Tamilnadu....
He was drawn to the Thirukadavur temple and Goddess Abhirami....Most of the time he would forget himself and be completely immersed in the dhyaana of the Goddess....
Once when he was sitting in the temple forgetting himself and his surroundings, the Serfoji king came to the temple and asked him what that day's "thithi" was.....
Though it was a new moon day(Amaavaasya), Subramanyam, thinking of the Goddess told the king that it was Pournami.....
As he was an expert in Tamil literature, he started singing songs in tamil praising the Goddess...
This work is popularly called "Abhirami Anthadhi"........
He prayed to the Goddess for the moon to appear....
When he finished singing the 79th song, the Goddess appeared out of the sacrficial fire removed one of her earrings (Thaatankams) and threw it out into the sky, which became a huge full moon... thus changed an Amaavaasya day to Pournami....
The king fell at Subramanyam's feet asked for forgiveness.....
This happened on a "Thai" Amaavaasya'.....
This year, 2023, "Thai Amaavaasya" was on Jan 21st....
The Rangoli depicts:
-The sacrificial Fire,
-A Picture of Goddess Abhirami,
-The garland,

-The Full Moon, and
-The Tamil phrase that says
"Out of nowhere came a beautiful moon in space."
